Context: God grants Moses' request to see His glory by promising to make His goodness pass before him and proclaiming His name.

Exodus 33:17-20

He tells Moses to lead the people out of bondage and into the promise land.

  • This was a prophetic Word.

Deliverance = whatever the Lord says He's going to make happen

God always honors His word.

We go through certain things because we don't listen.

  • Hard to lead a stiff neck person.

  • It's a mindset and an attitude.

Don't be stiff necked when God shows you instructions on how to get out.

Exodus 33:9

As Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and remain at the entrance, and the Lord would speak with Moses.

Certain way you had to present yourselves because the Lord was about to speak.

Requires undivided attention when the Lord speaks.

  • The cloud would descend and rest on His people.

Entering His presence is like the cloud, resting upon you.

Similar to relationships, spend time with God to get to know Him.

The Lord would speak to Moses "face to face" - figure of speech.

Exodus 12:1-2

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you."

When the Lord give you an assignment, He's talking directly to you.

God told Moses, "I will be with you." (Exodus 3:12)

Sometimes extra bodies complicate things.

When Moses went to talk to God, he went alone.

We step out of obedience when opinions come in but have to remember they didn't hear the instructions God gave you.

"Show me your way, that I may know you." (Exodus 33:13)

Moses needed confirmation.

How many confirmations do you need after you've heard God's voice?

  • The devil says one thing and we're quick to believe him.

What does the Word say?

You didn't need confirmation when the enemy speaks.

God confirms and we still seek.

  • This delays our obedience.

Exodus 33:14

And He said, "My presence will go with you and I will give you rest."

It's a BIG task but you wouldn't have been called if He didn't equip you.

The Lord calls and changes your mindset.

All blessings and promises are contingent on obedience.

It won't happen unless you obey.

"If your presence doesn't go, don't bring me." (Exodus 33:15)

If God's not in it, I don't want it.

Exodus 33:16

"How will the people know we found favor if you don't go with us?"

You're a light. You're supposed to stand out amongst those you're around.

You are the one God's set apart.

  • Can He use you?

Exodus 33:17

"For you have found favor in my sight and I know you by name."

God won't get your situation mixed up with others.

  • He knows exactly what you're dealing with.

Exodus 33:18

Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory."

I want to feel the weight of your glory upon me.

Moses was shown miracle after miracle.

  • He parted the Red Sea

  • Protected from seen and unseen circumstances

Whatever Moses experienced up to that point was great but he wanted more.

The flesh will never be satisfied.

Exodus 33:19

The Lord's response to Moses: "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim my name in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."

Given a glimpse of who He is - enough to blow your mind.

Can't handle the full weight of His glory in this space.

His name will give you access. His name precedes Him.

There is none like Him.

Exodus 33:20

"You cannot see my face, for no man can see me and live."

His holiness is too overwhelming.

Even Moses, one of the most intimate prophets, could not view His face.

There was a preparation he had to go through.

"Can know me fully but not yet."

The glory of God is not reserved for the elite or the super saved.

  • It's revealed and reserved for those who surrender themselves wholeheartedly.

When you cry out for Him, He comes.

The Lord will leave you always wanting more.

Even when you can't see Him, you can trust His character.

His glory is His goodness.

Moses asked for His presence and didn't demand answers.

He asked for intimacy.

When God shows His glory:

  • direction will be clearer

  • idols fall

  • ego dies

  • pride goes away

You will never be the same.

It's a different kind of presence.

In His presence is where you find peace of mind and clarity.

When the Lord says move, MOVE.

Psalms 102:13 - "For the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come."

Your time of favor is now. 🤍
